[ She likes Fillory because there's so much about it that feels wrong to someone from Earth, which means there's a lot to take apart and (maybe) put back together. There's a lot to learn, a lot to see. Magic is not a thing for children, and Fillory is not a world of happy dreams. It's nightmares, ugly truths, lofty prizes with heavy costs— for ordinary people in flesh and bone bodies. How they toil for their rewards. It's amusing.

What's more, this Fillory is (loosely, if at all) headed by the only person who understands her. He can reach out and bend reality more easily than any human she's ever met, if he even qualifies as human anymore. It's funny that sad, scared little Alice's former love became this unfettered Alice's fellow, her almost equal. Maybe they really are bound together by some kind of fate.

It doesn't really matter, though. Here she is in Castle Whitespire, strolling through the halls, unseen by mere mortals. She enters the throne room like she belongs there, her grin anything but kind as she sing-songs, an undertone of steady, deadly certainty to her voice— ]
